About this Ride (Description)

The green hills less than 30 minutes north of Baton Rouge create a beautiful landscape of rolling farmland and forests, and winding country roads that are perfect for cycling. It’s a setting that inspired John James Audubon to paint his famous “Birds of America” series.

Nestled in the natural beauty is rich history around little historic towns like St. Francisville in West Feliciana Parish, and Jackson and Clinton in East Feliciana Parish. While much of south Louisiana is rich in French culture, the Felicianas are rich in English culture, pointing back to the days when the area was part of the English colony of West Florida.

While cycling in and around St. Francisville, enjoy the antique shops and the historic homes. Along the cycling routes, visit antebellum plantation homes such as Rosedown, Butler Greenwood, Oakley and The Myrtles. Ghost tours and gourmet cuisine are offered at The Myrtles.

The golf enthusiast will find a full-amenity resort at The Bluffs, offering a pro-caliber course designed by Arnold Palmer. The history enthusiast will enjoy Locust Grove State Historic Site, which holds the gravesites of Sarah Knox Taylor, wife of Jefferson Davis, and Gen. Eleazor Ripley, distinguished soldier of the War of 1812. In Jackson, Centenary State Historic Site marks the original location of College of Louisiana.

The lightly traveled roads around St. Francisville and Jackson are perfect for cycling. History and beauty combine to make the serene hills of English Louisiana one of Louisiana’s best cycling destinations.
